Jill Clogston – Education Renewal Zone (ERZ) Director at Arkansas State University

I am in my 34th year in education.   I started teaching in August 1986 with my first assignment being at Evening Shade, Arkansas. It was there I found my good fortune of being asked to not only teach Social Studies but also coordinate and facilitate this relatively new thing called Gifted & Talented.  Needless to say, it quickly became my passion and has never left me.  I left Evening Shade after one year and then taught Social Studies for two years at Valley View School District in Jonesboro.  Missing my Gifted and Talented students, I left Valley View.  For the next three years, I worked as the full-time Gifted Education Coordinator and Facilitator for the Walnut Ridge School District.

In 1992 I became a Gifted Education Supervisor for the Northeast Arkansas Education Cooperative and was in that position until 2015.  This is my 5th year at Arkansas State University as Director of the A-State Education Renewal Zone and Advanced Placement Summer Institute.

I have served as AGATE President-Elect and President and am a charter member and former district director of the Arkansas Association of Gifted Education Administrators (AAGEA). Currently, I am on the Legislative Committee for AGATE and serve on the Arkansas ACT State Council.

Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are from A-State.  I earned my Master’s Degree in Gifted Education in 1990.

I have been married to George for 32 years.  We have one son Kyle, 23 years old. Kyle is a recent graduate of Arkansas State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer & Information Technology.  He was employed by Bank OZK in their West Little Rock headquarters. George recently retired after working in the banking and insurance business for 40 years.
