Annual Report 2015 – 2016

The Accounting Department of the UALR College of Business provides quality business education, delivered by research engaged faculty in partnership with the business community, to prepare students for professional careers and enhance regional economic development.

The Accounting Department shares the Vision of the UALR College of Business: to serve as a catalyst to advance education and economic development in the state of Arkansas.

During 2015-2016, accounting faculty published 7 peer-reviewed journal articles and made 6 conference presentations. The Department was approved for a Beta Alpha Psi Chapter. The ceremony for our installation was held on April 15. As part of their service leadership, the Beta Alpha Psi and Accounting Society students provided presentations on financial literacy to youths in the CSTEP program at Camp Robinson Air Force Base and volunteered with the Rice Depot. The student leaders attended the Beta Alpha Psi regional meeting in Dallas, Texas, on March 6-7, 2016.


The College of Business curriculum management plan assesses the degree to which student learning outcomes meet the College of Business learning objectives. In 2015-2016, the College assessed the development of student presentation skills. In addition to the College assessment, accounting students were assessed using the MFT assessment and a departmental test in Acct 4311 Accounting Issues.  Overall, the accounting students slightly outperformed national norms on the MFT exam, and performed particularly well on financial accounting.

The UALR Accounting Department has 3 priorities for the next year. The first priority is to increase the number of students taking Accounting classes. The second priority is to improve retention. The third priority is to raise the profile of the department.
