Samantha Smith

I am a Forensic Autopsy Technician and have been working at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for the past five years, something I wanted to do since I was in high school.  Although I did not get hired at my first interview, I was persistent and got the job the second time I interviewed and have been so happy here since. Chris Edwards, another graduate of the program, has been great in showing me the ropes and how he uses his degree. I could move to another section in the lab, but I think I already work in the best section. I get to see something different almost all the time, and working side by side with the pathologists is invaluable experience I wouldn’t get in any other section.

I still hold a current EMT certification and worked in the ER at UAMS for almost two years before I came to the Crime Lab. I worked on an ambulance with MEMS for a few months  before starting at the ER, but my navigational skills were lacking so I had to move on.
