During Summer 2019, the Provost’s Office convened a group of faculty and staff to explore the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) with the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning.
PLA not only offers a powerful platform for supporting adult learners and building community partnerships but also allows faculty to expand assessment beyond program-level student learning outcomes.
With PLA, we can use assessment to bear on UA Little Rock’s mission of improving students’ lives by shortening time to degree completion and contributing to a student’s sense of belonging on a college campus by validating their prior learning.

With support from Lumina Foundation for Education, which works to ensure that 60 percent of Americans are college-educated by 2025, CAEL conducted a multi-institutional study on PLA and adult student outcomes, using the records of 62,475 students at 48 colleges and universities.
