Dr. Andrew Rogerson began his tenure as chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Sept. 1, 2016. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Dr. Rogerson is the first internationally born chancellor in UA Little Rock’s history, and he brings a wealth of global academic, scientific and administrative expertise to his role as the 10th leader of UA Little Rock.
Dr. Rogerson earned a Ph.D. in Protozoan Ecology from the University of Stirling, Scotland, U.K. As a researcher, he has written more than 100-refereed publications and has received substantial funding in research contracts and grants, including awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Dr. Rogerson has a variety of research interests ranging from assessing the efficacy of ballast water treatment systems, to silicon biomineralization in diatoms. Dr. Rogerson has also supervised more than 20 master’s and doctoral students.
Prior to becoming chancellor of UA Little Rock, Dr. Rogerson was provost and vice president of academic affairs at Sonoma State University, a campus of the California State University system. He has been a professor, scholar, and senior administrator at leading universities in England, Scotland, Canada, and the United States, including University of London, University of Toronto, Nova Southeastern, Marshall University, and Fresno State.
Dr. Rogerson and his wife, Janessa, are proud to call UA Little Rock their home. Mrs. Rogerson is an active and involved “First Lady,” and is a passionate ambassador for the university. She is vitally engaged in her adopted city, working to avail her talents and resources for greater community engagement with UA Little Rock. Mrs. Rogerson is a member of Rotary Club 99, the Little Rock Aesthetic Club, Pulaski County Master Gardeners, AR Kids Reads, serves as a member of several non-profit advisory boards and university boards, and is a proud alumni of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXIII.
Janessa Rogerson is a graduate of Sonoma State University. Her career experience includes a long tenure in environmental studies, as well as a small business owner and arts development professional. For the last 10 years, she has worked in the Napa Valley wine industry as a luxury brand private client director, and most recently, as a development officer for corporate sponsorships at Sonoma State University’s renowned Green Music Center.
The Rogersons have a blended family of two sons and two daughters, who are grown and pursuing their dreams.
