However, some financial support is available for eligible students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/cis\/\">Ph.D. program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Student Scholarships <\/strong>reduce tuition to in-state rates for international students as long as they remain in good standing in the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible you must be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Designated an international student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entering the program in the fall semester<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Admitted to the UA Little Rock Graduate School for the first time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nominated by a faculty member in the CIS program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teaching Assistantships <\/strong>are funded by the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM) to assist faculty members with instruction, grading, and other course related duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full-time assistantship pays for 9 hours of tuition per semester and a monthly stipend of $1,500.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Half-time pays for 4.5 hours of tuition and a monthly stipend of $750.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neither full-time nor half-time pays for registration fees, books, housing, or other expenses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These assistantships are generally renewable depending on college funding and student and instructor evaluations of performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research Assistantships <\/strong>are awarded by faculty members in CSTEM via grant funding for research. These usually have the same tuition and stipend benefits as the teaching assistantships, but the students are selected by the principal research investigator based on a match of the students skills with tasks in the research project. Renewal depends on performance and the period of the grant funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduate Assistantships<\/strong> are available at a limited number to qualified full-time students and support teaching and research opportunities. To be eligible,&nbsp; you must be a registered full-time student taking at least 9 credit hours during each of the fall and spring semesters and you are prohibited from any other employment. Tuition is paid for 9 credit hours, and a stipend is provided for living expenses. For example, INFQ 7303-9U1, is the online section of INFQ 7303, Principles of Information Quality. Students not in the online tracks can still enroll in certain types of&nbsp; &#8220;webcast&#8221; sections to accommodate schedule constraints if they are not required to attend all classes in-person, e.g. international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. Students enrolled in webcast sections may still be expected to come to the classroom for exams, presentations, or activities for which the instructor requires attendance. Please review the course syllabus or contact the course instructor if you have any questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online and on-campus courses cannot be mixed during the semester. Students in the online program can only enroll in 9U sections. However, students can change admission between semesters. For example, if a student begins the program in Little Rock as an on-campus student, but later is transferred to another state by her employer, she can change her admission to online and continue her program remotely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-blended-online-model\">Blended Online Model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The online program for the Computer and Information Sciences Ph.D. program is a blended, concurrent webcast model. When the instructor begins the class, which has a scheduled meeting time, they begin the live webcast and also records the session. Online students can join the live webcast and interact with the instructor and other students in the class, or listen to the session recording later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assignment deadlines for online and on-campus students are the same. This includes exams. If an on-campus exam is proctored, then online students are required to use a proctor. The student is responsible for finding and nominating a proctor from a recognized proctoring organization such as a local college or university or a commercial proctoring service. UA Little Rock Testing Services will validate the proctor nomination, and if approved, will send a copy of the exam and administration instructions for the proctor to give to the student. Remote students are responsible for scheduling their exam as close as practical to the day and time of the on-campus exam. The track also establishes partnerships with the industry, government, and professional societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IQ is an emerging discipline concerned with maximizing the value of an organization\u2019s information assets while also minimizing risk, and assuring that the information products produced will create value for the customers who use them. Graduates are prepared to pursue a variety of careers such as chief data officer, director of data governance, and academic research and teaching roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The information quality track is available both on campus and <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/online\">fully online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-information-quality-track-core\">Information Quality Track Core<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IFSC 7310 &#8211; Information Systems Analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IFSC 7321 &#8211; Information Science: Principles and Theory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IFSC 7320 &#8211; Database Systems \/ Info Architecture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INFQ 7303 &#8211; Principles of Information Quality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INFQ 7322 &#8211; Information Quality Theory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INFQ 7367 &#8211; Information Quality Policy and Strategy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-additional-requirements-nbsp-information-quality-track\">Additional Requirements:&nbsp;Information Quality Track<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seating Availability:<\/strong> Admission may be denied or deferred if the track is at full enrollment. Full enrollment is reached when the Track Coordinator determines there are not enough available faculty, financial support, or other resources to adequately accommodate additional students in the track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong> Applicants for the Information Science Track are not required to have a specific degree background. However, all applicants are expected to have a basic working knowledge of computer programming, database programming, and statistics. Competencies in these areas may be gained demonstrated through formal course work, online training, or on-the-job experience. program is an interdisciplinary area of study where innovation meets exploration. The doctoral degree promotes strong collaborations across several computing disciplines whose bodies of knowledge influence and intertwine with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The faculty, curriculum, and resources for this program come from two departments, <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/computerscience\/\">Computer Science<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/informationscience\/\">Information Science<\/a>, which are housed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/cstem\/\">Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 75-hour program is offered both on campus and fully online. This track allows you to obtain an in-depth education in specific aspects of computer science and related fields. The track encourages interdisciplinary research among faculty, students, and research associates. Students whose degree(s) are in an appropriate scientific discipline, such as engineering, mathematics, computer science or technology area, will be the most prepared to enter and successfully complete this program. Students should have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale) for their last 60 credit hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GRE test scores taken within five years with a minimum verbal score of 142 (336 scale), minimum quantitative score of 144 (336 scale), minimum combined total of 301 (672 scale), and analytical writing score of 3.5 (6.0 scale). In addition, students can request a GRE waiver based on prior graduate work, professional experience, or in the case of international students, inability to schedule the examination. However, applications without GRE scores may not be as competitive as those with GRE scores. Computer Science and Information Science tracks have an additional minimum score requirement of 156 for the quantitative section. In addition, applicants should demonstrate their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively either through a strong score on the GRE Analytical Writing Component (e.g. 3.0 or above on a 6.0 scale) or through samples of their written work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three letters of recommendation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official college transcripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written statement by the applicant regarding the reasons why they should be considered for this Ph.D. program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resume detailing any professional work experience, published papers, or presentations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The CIS Steering Committee will evaluate the compatibility between the applicant\u2019s background, research interests, and communication skills vis-a-vis the doctoral program when making admission decisions and may decline to recommend for admission an otherwise qualified applicant based on a lack of fit with the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are accepted for either Fall or Spring semesters, but not for the Summer term. All applications for admission must be made for a specific track in the program. Because each track may impose additional requirements above the general requirements, please consult the additional requirements page for the track to which intent to apply before submitting your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All admission applications must be submitted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/gradschool\/graduate-application\/\">UA Little Rock Graduate School<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For International applicants:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>International applicants must request the World Education Services (WES) or another agency approved by the UA Little Rock Graduate School to submit articulated versions of their international transcripts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International applicants who have not completed two or more years of full-time studies at a college or university where English is the language of instruction must provide evidence of English language proficiency by attaining a minimum score of 71 (79 scale) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 6.5 (9.0 scale) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
