UALR announces the Jane and Bob Wayland Endowed Scholarship

Jane and Bob Wayland Endowed Scholarship unveiling photographOn June 8, 2017, a new scholarship was announced for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock: The Jane and Bob Wayland Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship was named in honor of Dr. Jane Wayland, Dean of the UALR College of Business, and Dr. Robert Wayland, Visiting Professor of Management at the UALR College of Business. The annual award will be given to an undergraduate or graduate level student within the College of Business with financial need strongly considered.

The scholarship was spearheaded by Michele and John Towne whose son, Michael Towne, graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville campus after serving an internship provided through the Little Rock campus College of Business. The internship soon turned into permanent employment for Michael upon graduation, prompting Michele and John Towne to initiate a new annual scholarship at UALR in gratitude to those who helped their son succeed.

In addition to the Towne family, founding donors for the Jane and Bob Wayland Endowed Scholarship include: Arkamedia LLC – Inviting Arkansas, Deborah Baldwin and Jim Metzger, Dora Jane and Greg Flesher, John Fowler, Cindy Kilgore, Sheena Howell and Brad Elam, Karen and Terry Masching, Tara and Larry Stebbins, Shelia and Larry Vaught, and Jane and John Yocum.

In response to the honor, Dr. Jane Wayland said on behalf of herself and her husband, “We were overwhelmed and so grateful and VERY surprised… Lesson Learned: You never know what impact will happen from a small thing.”
