Current, past alumni scholarship winners get “suite” deal at recent game

The UALR Alumni Association hosted current and past scholarship recipients and their families during a recent Thursday night Trojan basketball home game at the Jack Stephens Center.

L-R: Mario Wallace, Amy Tran, Emily Bruner, Janine Mitchell, Sharhonda Kelly, Zach Russenberger, Randall Willis, and Tricia Willis.

Nine recipients, along with their friends and families, enjoyed watching the Trojans compete from the comfort of the UALR Advancement and the Pepsi Suites on Thursday, Feb. 7.

“I’m having a great time,” said Janine Harris Mitchell, recipient of the $2,500 Alumni Merit scholarship. Mitchell graduated from UALR in December 2013 and is now enrolled as a graduate student majoring in human resources management. She said the scholarship she earned took a heavy load off her shoulders, while she was an undergraduate at UALR.

Thursday’s ball game represented the first time the UALR Alumni Association hosted current and former scholarship recipients, according Director of Compliance and Donor Relations Laura Wentz.

“I thought it would be a great way to show our scholarship recipients how much we appreciate their efforts. And, hopefully, it will plant the seeds for membership and participation in the UALR Alumni Association,” said Wentz, smiling.
