Cooper Honors Program: Student Application

Applications are due each semester on Consultation Day (the day after the last official day of classes, before final exams begin). All students seeking a second year of funding must re-apply in the Spring.

Submit the below application form and upload the following supporting material (2nd-year applicants should note the bold text):

  • Transcripts of all of your college work (unofficial worksheets will do); if you are a second-year applicant, include an updated transcript;
  • A writing sample (up to 3 pieces, if available; ideally, these should represent the spectrum of your work: literary or linguistic analysis, research, creative writing); if you are a second-year applicant, one recent sample of your written work is enough;
  • A personal statement of interest in the Cooper Honors Program; this statement (no more than 2 typed single-spaced pages) should clarify what your career goals are (including post-graduate education) and how you think this program will further those goals; if you are a second-year applicant, you might want to mention your progress so far, changes from your previous year’s personal statement, as well as your attendance at Cooper Speakers Series events. If there is anything affecting your application that might need explanation (e.g. grade problems), this is the place to do it.

Applicants also need confidential letters of recommendation from two faculty members, at least one of whom is a member of the UALR English faculty; these can be submitted using the online recommendation form or sent to the Cooper Director.
