1. SYEN 4355/5355 Mobile Multimedia Internet

Course Description:
Pre-requisites: SYEN 3314.
The course provides state-of-the-art perspective of the emerging landscape of wireless multimedia Internet, various wireless technologies including 2G, 2.5G, and 3G and beyond wireless networking architectures and protocols, mobile IP protocols, various standards organization, as well as wireless LANs and voice over IP (VoIP) protocols.

Course objectives

  • Understand the principles of emerging mobile wireless Internet.
  • Understand the architectures of various 2G, 2.5G, 3G wireless systems.
  • Understand and analyze location strategies for wireless systems
  • Understand and analyze authentication strategies for wireless systems
  • Understand the significance of various standards bodies (IETF, IEEE, ITU, etc) and study and analyze protocols developed by these organizations
  • Understand and analyze state-of-the-art development in Voice over IP protocols
  • Engage in life-long learning by researching published articles, survey papers, and other sources as needed to enhance your understanding of class lectures
  • Acquire knowledge of contemporary issues by understanding trends in wireless industries
  • Ability to work in teams to develop technical presentations and reports to effectively communicate and supplement what you learnt in class lectures
  • Apply state-of-the-art simulation and design tools (OPNET) to model, simulate, and analyze wireless systems including VoIP systems
