UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy

This unique opportunity is geared toward supporting teachers in gaining National Board Teacher Certification through four graduate classes designed exclusively to support the candidate over a two-year period.  The four online graduate classes (12 hours) may be taken alone (not applied toward a degree) or be taken as partial fulfillment toward one of two masters degrees; MA in Curriculum and Instruction or MA in Gifted, Creative, and Talented. All four classes are taken online, with course materials organized within the university’s online learning platform system, Blackboard.

The UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy was established to increase the number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) in school districts where the number of NBCTs is less than 5%.  The Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has prioritized the school districts according to the number of current NBCTs working in the school districts.

Completed Applications and Next Steps: The Director of the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy will contact individuals from priority school districts who successfully complete the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy application and discuss next steps.  Candidates will be interviewed by phone.

Teachers working in school districts identified by DESE will receive priority consideration for acceptance to the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy.

Individuals selected for the UA Little Rock NBPTs Teacher Academy will be notified by email.

Acknowledgement: If accepted into the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy, candidates will sign a Letter of Commitment committing to the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy’s two-year program of NBPTS support.

UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy support includes: a scholarship for the four designated NBPTS graduate courses, costs covering the initial submission of NBPTS Component 1, Component 2, Component 3, and Component 4, and candidate support supplies identified by the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy.

Support for National Board Teacher Certification will be delivered through four (4) designated courses, one course per semester, directly associated with the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy.  Each UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy course offers three (3) graduate credits for a total of 12 graduate credits.  The courses associated with the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy will be offered online during the following semesters:  Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024.

Individuals accepted into the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy will be required to immediately 1) apply and be accepted into the UA Little Rock Graduate School and 2) register for the designated Fall 2022 graduate course associated with the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy.  (NoteLate registration fees will not be covered by the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy and will be covered, if applicable, by the individual).

This program will support 30 qualified individuals.  Once 30 qualified individuals are selected, the application process will be closed.  Individuals not selected for the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy will be notified by email.

Note:  Participation in the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy does not guarantee National Board Teacher Certification.  The qualifying score for National Board Teacher Certification is set by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  In order for individuals to achieve National Board Teacher Certification, it may be necessary to resubmit one or more of the Components.  Costs associated with resubmitting any component(s) for National Board Teacher Certification will be covered by the individual and not the UA Little Rock NBPTS Teacher Academy.
