She received her doctorate in Science Education from Cornell and is currently a professor of education and engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education which recognizes individuals who have made innovative and significant contributions to changes in P-12 Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:7px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"103\" height=\"122\" src=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/gifted\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/225\/2023\/02\/Wayne.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2385\" style=\"width:185px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Wayne Fawcett<\/strong> is the former superintendent of the Paris School District. Prior to this, he was the superintendent of Drew Central Schools in\u00a0 Monticello. He has been involved in education for 39 years. He graduated from\u00a0 Ouachita Baptist University in 1982 with his Bachelors, later earning his Master\u2019s in\u00a0 Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Kara has 21 years of experience teaching in the elementary school setting. She currently serves as the Gifted and Talented Coordinator for grades kindergarten through twelve (K-12) and facilitates direct\u00a0 instruction for kindergarten through second grades (K-2) Whole Group Enrichment and grades three\u00a0 through six (3-6) Pull Out Instruction. The Brinkley School District was previously chosen to participate in\u00a0 the STEM+C2 Project. Dr. Hernandez is student-focused and works to support growth in each\u00a0 school leader\u2019s ability to improve student achievement. He is actively engaged in\u00a0 the education community to identify, develop, and leverage resources to assist\u00a0 districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hernandez previously served at the Arkansas Department of Education in a  variety of positions including State Superintendent for the Office of Coordinated Support and Service and  Deputy Commissioner. He also served as Assistant Commissioner over Fiscal Services. Dr. Hernandez has  served as Superintendent of the Hot Springs School District and Danville School District. He began his  administrative career as a Principal of the Western Yell County High School. Dr. Hernandez received his B.S.  from the University of New Orleans, an M.A. from the University of Central Arkansas in Mathematics, an M.A. from Harding University and his doctorate from Harding University in Educational Leadership. Hutchinson announced Key as the Secretary of\u00a0 the Department of Education as part of his plan to transform state government. Key served in both capacities until January 2023. Under Key\u2019s leadership, the agency focused the vision\u00a0 on transforming Arkansas to lead the nation in student-focused education. The mission is to provide leadership, support, and service to schools, districts, and\u00a0 communities so every student graduates prepared for college, career and community engagement. The value statements and goals guide the daily work within the agency. Prior to being named commissioner, Key served as associate vice president for university relations at the\u00a0 University of Arkansas System, a position he held since August 2014. He began his career in public service\u00a0 in 1997 when he was elected to serve as a justice of the peace on the Baxter County Quorum Court. The Maumelle resident is a co-owner of Mayhaw Publishing LLC, Real Estate Magazines, and the President of\u00a0 Mahony Consulting. Mahony is a former lobbyist for Developmental Disabilities Providers Association (DDPA), Easter Seals, Cerebral Palsy, Friendship, AEDD, and\u00a0 Pathfinder, among others, in Arkansas and Washington. For many years, he worked\u00a0 with state senators, state representatives, and the state of Arkansas to pass laws to increase opportunities for the DD community. The longtime Rotarian has experience teaching at Academics Plus Charter High School. Previously, he was Chief Operating Officer of Gemini Rosemont\u2019s predecessor company, Rosemont Realty, LLC, where Mr. Mahony led corporate operations for the company, including asset due diligence efforts and ongoing management and operations of real estate investments, while providing\u00a0 strategic direction and leadership for the company. Prior to Rosemont, Mahony was Vice President of Acquisitions and Finance for Andr\u00e9 Balazs Properties (ABP), a New York-based boutique hotel and residential management and development company. At ABP, Mahony directed business development efforts and negotiated the participation of ABP in over $1 billion of new projects. Before joining Andr\u00e9 Balazs Properties, Mr. Mahony was with the real estate private equity\u00a0 group at Lazard Fr\u00e8res in New York focusing on the ongoing management, restructuring, and disposition\u00a0 of the funds\u2019 portfolio assets. Mr. Mahony is a member of the Board of his family\u2019s timber company, the Mahony Corporation, based in El Dorado, Arkansas, and is active for a number of non-profit organizations in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mahony received a Master\u2019s Degree in International Finance from the London School of Economics, after earning Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and in History from Yale University. In this role under the university\u2019s provost, he is responsible for oversight of student-related leadership initiatives and supervision\u00a0 of various student services departments and programs. Her priorities include increasing and diversifying the STEM workforce and teacher pipeline and creating opportunities for traditionally underserved populations. She leads the Arkansas Data Science and Computing Ecosystem to develop and connect Arkansas\u2019 information technology workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Moore received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a master\u2019s degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, both in secondary mathematics education. She completed a specialist degree through Arkansas State University and a doctoral degree through Liberty University in educational leadership, curriculum, and instruction. She holds educator licensure in secondary Mathematics and Computer Science and district-level Curriculum\/Program Administration. Her passion for STEM and lifelong learning has led to a diverse career path in education, healthcare, and the corporate sector. Dr. Moore has held various STEM-related leadership positions including serving as the ADE Mathematics Program Manager; the Arkansas State University at Beebe Dean of Business, Math, and Science; and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Center for Health Literacy Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Krystal Nail<\/strong> is the program director for the Office of Gifted &\u00a0 Talented and Advanced Placement at the Arkansas Department of Education’s\u00a0 division of Elementary and Secondary Education. Prior to serving in this role, Krystal\u00a0 has served as a program advisor for the Office of Gifted & Talented and Advanced\u00a0 Placement, K-12 Gifted program coordinator and facilitator, and Advanced\u00a0 Placement coordinator. Krystal has a bachelor\u2019s degree in Early Childhood\u00a0 Education and a master\u2019s degree in Gifted Education. She has served in various\u00a0 positions on the Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education (AGATE) Board and\u00a0 conference committee, is a former AGATE conference chair, and has presented numerous times at the AGATE Conference, the Arkansas Association of Gifted Educational Administrators\u00a0 conference, the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators conference, and the National\u00a0 Association of Gifted Children’s conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aaron Randolph<\/strong>, assistant superintendent, was born in\u00a0 Jacksonville, Arkansas. He attended all 13 years of his public education in the Cabot\u00a0 school system and graduated from Cabot High School in 2001. Prior to serving in\u00a0 his current role, Mr. Randolph served as the Director of G\/T &amp; AP for Cabot\u00a0 Schools beginning in 2012 and added the role of Federal Programs Director in\u00a0 2015. From 2018-2021 he served as the Executive Director for K-12 Curriculum & Instruction for the Cabot School District. Other than one year as an undergraduate of studying in Europe, Randolph has spent his entire life in Arkansas. Randolph has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies from the University\u00a0\u00a0of Arkansas. He was presented with a Master of Arts degree in teaching from the University of Central\u00a0 Arkansas. In addition, Randolph received a Graduate Certificate in the Education of Gifted, Talented, & Creative students from Arkansas State University and earned an Educational Specialist degree in\u00a0 educational administration and supervision from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He holds educational licensure in 7-12 Social Studies and K-12 Gifted and Talented, along with District-level and Curriculum\/Program administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before beginning as a full-time teacher, Randolph worked in both the Cabot School District as well as\u00a0 the North Little Rock School District as a substitute teacher. He began his teaching career at NLR High School \u2013 East Campus before returning to his alma mater in 2010. Prior to moving into administration he taught a number of Social Studies courses including World History, Civics, Pre-AP Civics, Economics, AP\u00a0European History and AP Art History. Mr. Randolph is a professional member of ASCD, AAEA, AACIA, AAGEA, where he serves as the Immediate Past-president, NAGC, and AGATE, where he serves as the chair\u00a0 of the Legislative committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Randolph has been married to his wife, Ann, since 2007. The couple has four wonderful children, Charlotte, Daniel, Benjamin, and Elizabeth. Investigator (PI). Dr. Ann Robinson<\/strong> is Distinguished Professor at UA Little Rock  and founding director of the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education at the University of  Arkansas at Little Rock. She is past president of the National Association for Gifted Children  (NAGC), and has been honored by NAGC as Early Scholar, Early Leader, Distinguished  Scholar, and for Distinguished Service. In 2021, Ann was presented with the A. Harry Passow  International for Leadership Award from the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children  (WCGTC). She developed five U.S. Department of Education projects including three STEM  research and demonstration programs for elementary students and teachers in low-come schools.  An internationally known scholar, she is the lead author on the best-selling Best Practices in  Gifted Education: An Evidence-Based Guide and coeditor of A Century of Contributions to Gifted Education: Illuminating  Lives. Dr. Jill L. Adelson<\/strong> is President and CEO of Adelson  Research & Consulting, LLC, which provides statistical and educational consulting services.  She has a doctorate in Educational Psychology with a joint emphasis in Measurement,  Evaluation, and Assessment as well as Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut and  holds a Certificate in Quantitative Research Methods in Psychology. Dr. Adelson brings both  content expertise (elementary school gifted\/mathematics education background) as well as  methodological\/statistical expertise. Dr. Christine Deitz<\/strong> is the Associate Director for the Jodie Mahony  Center for Gifted Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is a nationally  recognized educator in gifted, creative, and talented education. During her 26 years of public  school service, she was a College Board faculty consultant in social studies. Christine is a two time National Board Certified Teacher and is the director of the National Board for Professional  Teaching Standards Teacher Academy at UA Little Rock. A recipient of multiple national  educator and curriculum awards, Dr. Deitz was recognized as Doctoral Student of the Year and  received the A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Award from the National Association for  Gifted Children. She is the author of articles on gifted education and is a past president of the  state\u2019s advocacy association, Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education. Dr. Monica Meadows<\/strong> is the Research Associate for  STEM+C2. Dr. Meadows has eighteen years of educational experience. She has served as both  an elementary and a secondary Gifted and Talented Facilitator for the Pulaski County Special  School District in Little Rock, AR and Jacksonville North Pulaski School District in  Jacksonville, AR. She also has experience teaching various high school and middle school  science classes and as an AP coordinator. She currently is an adjunct professor of early childhood  science methods for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and works closely with several of  the summer programs offered at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Jodie Mahony Center  for Gifted Education. Dr. Meadows also serves on the board of directors for the Arkansans for  Gifted and Talented Education as the Parent Affiliate Director. She has also  served as a gifted and talented facilitator for the Little Rock Schools, as an adjunct professor of  early childhood science methods for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and as the k-12  math and science specialist for the eStem Public Charter Schools. Dr. Christine Cunningham<\/strong> is a leading expert on  science and engineering education. She received her doctorate in Science Education from  Cornell and is currently a professor of education and engineering at The Pennsylvania State  University. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Harold W. Lori Delk<\/strong> has a B.A. in Dramatic Art from the University of North Carolina and an MEd in Gifted and Talented Education form UA Little Rock.  She retired from teaching in 2022 and joined the staff of the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education at UA Little Rock as the Coordinator for the Advanced Placement Summer Institutes.  She came to this position after 27 years of teaching a variety of AP courses including AP Comparative Government, AP U.S. Government, AP Human Geography, AP World History and AP Seminar. In 2020 she was awarded the Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education Educator Recognition Award. Keila Moreno Mugabo<\/strong>, originally from Mexico City, has been working at  the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education since 2015, managing research data for STEM  Starters+, STEM+C2, and assisting in various gifted programs. Prior to this, she taught English  in elementary schools in Mexico. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign  Language from Universidad Cuauht\u00e9moc Aguascalientes and a master\u2019s degree in Gifted  Education from UA Little Rock. The 2016 recipient of the NAGC Master\u2019s and Specialist Award  has presented at various conferences, including AGATE, NAGC, and the World Council for  Gifted and Talented Children. 72204<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ann Robinson<\/strong>, Ph.D. is Distinguished Professor at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Wyoming are both in literature and her Ph.D. from Purdue University is in educational psychology. She has held visiting appointments at Wolfson College, the Cambridge Institute of Education, Cambridge University, and Brunel University in the U.K. and Monash University and the University of New South Wales in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ann founded the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education and the Arkansas Advanced Placement Teacher Professional Development Institute. Over the course of her academic career, she has secured more than $26 million in external funding for research and service, including three Jacob K. Javits demonstration projects in curriculum, instruction, and evaluation focused on talented children from low-income households and numerous federal and state grants to support teacher professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ann is currently an associate editor of <em>Gifted and<\/em> <em>Talented International<\/em>, the official scholarly journal of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children, and serves the Council as a delegate from the U.S.A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ann has a passion for biography and initiated <em>Blueprints for Biography<\/em>, a series of teaching guides linked to trade books for children and adolescents. Deitz<\/strong> is now an adjunct professor for the Mahony Center for Gifted Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, after serving for 8 years as the Associate Director. She is a nationally recognized educator in gifted and talented education. Beyond her 30 years of public school service, Christine holds two National Board Teacher certificates in social studies and Exceptional Needs\/Gifted. A recipient of multiple NAGC awards, Dr. Deitz was recognized as Doctoral Student of the Year (2013) and received the A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Award in 2007. She also received NAGC\u2019s Non-Doctoral Student of the Year in 2001 and the Curriculum Award in 2000. Christine served on several NAGC Taskforces, assisting Presidents George Betts, Jonathan Plucker, Lauri Kirsh, and Shelagh Gallagher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Deitz is currently the immediate past president of her state\u2019s advocacy organization, Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education, having served as president from 2018-2000. Christine has served on the AGATE board since 2007. Join the Summer Laureate team as we venture into “<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1ASxI8IHGXcQ2AzwgsNkoS6XYEa8JmzgOvKb11kIrEtw\/edit?usp=sharing\">Curious about Papyrus<\/a>.” When you arrive at the Google Slide page, simply click on the “Present” tab located at the top right corner of the page to enjoy a visit to King Tut’s tomb, a papyrus-making demonstration, and demonstrations on how to make and decorate your own papyrus. Curated resources and links for further adventures along the Nile are also included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/globalscholars.yale.edu\/\">Yale Young Global Scholars<\/a> program plans to meet on campus during the summer of 2021. If restrictions are still in place, then they will pivot to remote learning. This program offers opportunities for students in Grades 11-12. Pricy, but scholarships are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UA Little Rock’s own Sequoyah National Research Center developed and designed a website and interactive touchscreen table visually maps the journey of American Indians on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journeyofsurvival.org\/\">Trail of Tears as a result of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. <\/a>The project was funded by a grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/zunilearningtree.com\/\">Zuni<\/a> connects learners to free online educational materials. Program Information"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-welcome-to-mt-stage-nbsp-from-the-bard-to-broadway\">Welcome to MT Stage:  From the Bard to Broadway!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our program is preparing for an amazing week of exploring musical theater, performance, adaptation, Shakespeare, stage combat and lyric analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-student-showcase-performance-open-to-the-public\">Student Showcase Performance (open to the public)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday, July 3rd at 2 p.m.<br>Donaghey Student Center, Ledbetter ABC<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-program-information\">Program Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>June 29 – July 3, 2026 on the campus of UA Little Rock<br> 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Student drop off begins at 8:30 a.m. and pick up is promptly at 4:30 p.m.)<\/p>\n\n\n<a class=\"lr-button maroon-solid\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/KFykuisHzBPtPakFA\">Apply for MT Stage: From the Bard to Broadway<\/a>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-program-description\">Program Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the tradition of \u201cWest Side Story,\u201d\u00a0 \u201c& Juliet,\u201d and \u201cGnomeo and Juliet,\u201d\u00a0 students will use Shakespeare\u2019s Romeo and Juliet to create modernized scenes with original song lyrics.\u00a0 There is always room for original interpretation and students will explore how to go about it. The process will involve learning how to manipulate Shakespearean language through the use of Shakespearean insults, how to set up theatrical scenes to add a song and basic stage combat with safety protocols, culminating in a showcase of student-created scenes and songs.\u00a0 Along the way students will learn about the concepts of Adaptation and Interpretation, have a great time with team-building activities, make connections with new friends and develop their talents.\u00a0 This week will focus on performance and creative expression through both acting and music, and will take place on the UA Little Rock campus from June 29-July 3, 2026.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MT Stage: From the Bard to Broadway program will conclude with a special performance at UA Little Rock where students take center stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirty students from across Arkansas will be selected to participate in this unique and exciting experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MT Stage is <strong>a non-residential program<\/strong> and does not supply housing for participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students who have participated in previous MT Stage Experience programs are NOT eligible to re-apply for the program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> This program takes place on the campus of UA Little Rock beginning Monday, June 29 through Friday July 3 and includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Program T-shirt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>light breakfast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hearty lunch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a fabulous learning experience!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Families are responsible for transportation to and from program<\/strong>. Project team members from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Adelson Research & Consulting, LLC, and The Pennsylvania State University will collaborate to design, implement, and evaluate STEM+C<sup>2 <\/sup>in 30 elementary schools around Arkansas. The project design includes universal screening for all students, identification for gifted and talented, professional development for participating teachers, and curriculum for talent development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEM+C<sup>2<\/sup> project expects to increase numbers of students identified as gifted and talented in project schools, increase percentages of identified students served under the program, increase gains on state assessments, and increase the number of educators prepared to better identify and improve instruction for gifted and talented students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEM+C<sup>2<\/sup> will serve approximately 1,380 Grade 2 and Grade 3 students, 60 classroom teachers, 30 gifted education specialist teachers, and 30 principals across two Cohorts in 30 Arkansas elementary schools.
