Student teams work with a private sector client to develop quality IT solutions to address organizational needs. These projects typically have both a web and database component requiring students to apply skills they&#8217;ve learned in previous semesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects are done in two phases. The first is project planning and portfolio development and the second phase is project completion and portfolio development. We launch projects every September and February and they are completed during a 90 day development cycle. There is no cost to the organization other than technology-based fees like web hosting. We typically are able to support 10 projects a year, giving preference to non-profit organizations. Project organizations are not limited to the Central Arkansas region, but those outside that area must be willing to meet virtually with the teams and attend the presentation at the end of the semester. If you&#8217;d like to be considered please submit your idea below. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Expectations for Client<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Be responsive to students<\/li>\n  <li>Treat students as professionals with both the expectations and respect that come with that<\/li>\n  <li>Understand the timeframe of the project and defined end dates<\/li>\n  <li>Attend end of semester presentations (stay for all presentations, not just yours)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>What Clients Can Expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>A student team that works hard and learns independently<\/li>\n  <li>A team of faculty with substantial &#8220;real-world&#8221; experience that supports the students and clients but that remains in the background without direct client communication<\/li>\n  <li>A project plan\/scope of work that outlines the specific project expectations for clients and students, as well as dates, milestones, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n  <li>Clients will be asked to approve and commit He brings 20 years of web development and design experience to the classroom. A 2000 graduate of the IT minor pilot program, he spent five years as the lead web developer for UA Little Rock culminating in the launch of the new UA Little Rock web presence in February 2006 before returning to the classroom. His areas of expertise\/interest are standards-based web development, adaptive and responsive design, web usability and accessibility, interface development and design, and emerging internet technology. Since then, I have over 30 years of industry experience in software development, project management, and business processes in the Little Rock area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I joined UA Little Rock in 2012. As the previous owner of an IT consulting firm, I am keenly aware of the skills that it takes to be hired and to excel in your profession. The curriculum is a direct result of research conducted with companies in central Arkansas. Our students get to work with local organizations and companies to develop quality IT solutions to address the organization&#8217;s needs, as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/informationtechnology\/capstone-project-request\/\">capstone project<\/a>. This provides students with real-world experiential learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students in each program will receive a Chromebook to use during the course. Students do not have to buy textbooks since all course materials are digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-information-technology-minor\">Information Technology Minor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Information Technology Minor is for students who are majoring in the arts, humanities, social sciences, sciences, and other programs that do not have an intensive computing component. You will take courses that focus on advanced problem-solving, project planning as well as technical, business, and soft skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not need to have an extensive background in computers or technology, but you should demonstrate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Problem-solving skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leadership abilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interests in information technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This minor is embedded in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/informationscience\/ba-in-internet-design-and-development\/\">Web Design and Development degree<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-admission-requirements\">Admission Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completion of 30 or more semester hours and a GPA of 2.5 or greater<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Declaration of a major at UA Little Rock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<a class=\"lr-button maroon-solid\" href=\"https:\/\/catalog.ualr.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=20&#038;poid=5393\">Minor Curriculum<\/a>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-information-technology-technical-certificate\">Information Technology Technical Certificate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The technical certificate is for working professionals who are looking to enter a new stage in their career. It can provide the essential skills you need to increase your value in today\u2019s business market.
