Student Spotlight: Pettis working with 4-H Youth Development

Christy Pettis MAIS student and Graduate Assistant Christy Pettis has been working with University of Arkansas  Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development this summer writing and evaluating  rubrics for selected district and state competitions. She has also been responsible for  creating and maintaining a database for the Youth Development department.

This opportunity came as a result of relationships developed at UALR and made  possible through AmeriCorps VISTA. It has been an exciting experience thus far,  utilizing skills from various courses selected for her Masters of Arts in  Interdisciplinary Studies. Courses such as those provided in conflict mediation have  enabled effective team work, and courses in grant writing and statistics helped  conceptualize how the database should be designed to enable the in-house grant  writer to gather quantitative data.

She plans to continue her involvement with 4-H through volunteering her services to the Youth Development. Christy is currently studying Psychology, Social Work, and Conflict Mediation through MAIS.
