UA Little Rock is nearing the end of a successful VoIP pilot project. We introduced this unified communication platform in four departments: Windgate, Benton campus, City Center, and IT Services. During the pilot project, we addressed operational and administrative issues related to the new system and anticipate smooth deployments throughout the remaining areas of the institution.
Phase 2 is scheduled through October 2019 with Phase 3 scheduled to begin in mid-November. Phased migrations will continue throughout the next calendar year with a projected completion date of December 2020.
Since collaboration is essential to the migration process, IT Services personnel will contact individual departments to discuss current operations and operating requirements to minimize disruptions whenever possible before migration begins. Learn more about the anticipated departmental migrations.
Online training and in-person help sessions will be offered regularly so all campus community members can familiarize themselves with the new system features. For additional information, please refer to the VoIP Quick Reference Guide or FAQ.
While some disruption to campus services is unavoidable, we believe that the VoIP system ultimately benefits the UA Little Rock community. Some enhancements include:
- A single prefix (e.g., 916-XXXX) to create a single campus identity.
- Four-digit dialing between campus phones.
- More options for integration into daily environment.
- A flexible platform that supports organizational evolution.
- Improved emergency services.
- Improved IT services with in-house administration of work orders.
As always, we look forward to taking this journey with you.
