Robert Steinbuch, a University of Arkansas at Little Rock law professor, will serve on the Arkansas advisory committee of a federal organization dedicated to advancing civil rights through investigation, research, and analysis.
The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights — an independent bipartisan federal agency — appointed Steinbuch to the Arkansas committee on Nov. 18.
“I’m as honored as I am humbled to be able to bring my deep commitment, knowledge, and outlook to the Arkansas Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights,” Steinbuch said.
Originally established by the Civil Rights Act of 1957, the commission is a fact-finding agency that helps develop national civil rights policy and enhances federal civil rights law enforcement.
“The committee’s purpose is extremely important in ensuring that our society continues toward the goal of universal equality under the law,” Steinbuch said. “I have been working on civil rights issues for many years and have focused most recently on law school admissions.”
According to the commission’s website, the agency pursues its mission “… by studying alleged deprivations of voting rights and alleged discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin, or in the administration of justice.”
Steinbuch joined the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law in 2005 and has served in government and private practice. Roles with the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee are among his professional experiences.
