Shawn Manis, Operations Manager at Ottenheimer Library, is the 2017 recipient of the Arkansas Library Association’s (ArLA) Lorrie Shuff Paraprofessional Award. Bestowed annually, the Lorrie Shuff Paraprofessional Award recognizes a library worker who has performed a distinguished level of paraprofessional library service in the state of Arkansas. First awarded in 1996, the award was named in memory of Lorrie Shuff in 2002.
Manis received the award in recognition for his contributions to Arkansas libraries through his contributions to the Arkansas Library Association and the association’s Arkansas Library ParaprofessionalS (ALPS) division, serving as ALPS division chair and ArLA conference planning chair. Judy Calhoun, past ArLA president, presented the award to Manis at the association’s annual conference in Rogers, Arkansas on September 24, 2017.
Manis, a UA Little Rock employee for eighteen years, began as a work study student employee before becoming a full time employee in Ottenheimer Library in 2005. As the library’s Operations Manager, he currently oversees circulation, reserves, and information services.
