Faith United Methodist Church of Little Rock is taking great strides to provide summer reading books for students in the Little Rock Community. As it is critical for students to retain the knowledge learned in the school year during the long summer months, summer reading is a great way for a student to improve their literacy skills and better prepare for the next school year. Books for Brady is an ongoing project with Faith United Methodist church and Brady Elementary School of Little Rock.
Every summer, “Faith United Methodist church makes an effort to provide a new book for every child to take home over the summer” says Pastor David Hoffman. For over three years, church members have made donations allowing the church to purchase new books from the Scholastic Book Warehouse. Church members were able to shop and pick out a book for each child and deliver them to Brady Elementary. In 2017, Faith United Methodist Church provided over 500 new books to students to read over the summer!
For some students, this may be the only new book they receive for the summer. It is very meaningful to the church members to know that they have made an impact on the students’ lives.
This project gives congregation members the opportunity to give back to the youth in their community. Church members say “helping others” is something they enjoy doing. Faith United Methodist Church plans to continue this partnership in 2019 and beyond and is looking forward to seeing the difference they will make in the lives of the students.
