Mentorship Program

The Student Affairs Diversity Initiatives (SADI) Mentoring Program provides the opportunity for first-time, first-year students and transfer students to be connected with peer and professional mentors to help ease the transition into college.

Mentees

The SADI mentoring program gives first-time, first-year students and transfer students a chance to get connected with both peer mentors and professional mentors who will help ease the transition into college, answer questions regarding the university, and provide guidance to resources for academic support.

Mentees participate in numerous relationship-building activities, academic workshops, and other events throughout the year. The program provides opportunities for both formal and informal mentor relationships among SADI members and other students on campus as well. If you desire a mentor, just complete the 2024-2025 SADI Member/Mentee application.

Peer Mentors

To be a SADI Peer mentor, you must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be classified as a sophomore (earned at least 30 credit hours). As a SADI Peer Mentor, you are expected to:

  • attend mentor training
  • establish and maintain regular communication with your mentees
  • attend monthly meetings with the Multicultural Center staff and other events, such as First Fridays at The MC.

Professional Mentors

By providing our SADI Mentees with both peer and professional mentors, we aim for wrap-around support and the opportunity for mentees to build their networks. The requirements for our SADI Professional Mentors are as follows:

  • Be a current, full-time UA Little Rock faculty or staff member
  • Check-in with mentees twice per semester
    • Notify us if your students are having issues or if you have suggestions on how to better serve students in general
  • One presentation per academic year. The Multicultural Center hosts several types of monthly programs. As a SADI professional mentor, you may choose to do one of the following in order to fulfill the presentation requirement:
  • Attend other Multicultural Center events as your schedule permits (no required number of events to attend)

In addition to the opportunity to shape our students’ experience at UA Little Rock, mentorship assignments come with a stipend. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a SADI Peer or Professional Mentor, please email multicultural@ualr.edu.
