Ceramic Artist Demonstrates Raku Firing Techniques Oct. 15-16

Visiting ceramic artist Helen Phillips will demonstrate the Raku firing process in two classes next week – from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Fine Arts Building. Both demonstration classes are open to UALR art students and the general public. Admission is free.

β€œThe Raku process is originally from Japan where pots are heated up very quickly and smoked in sawdust or rice hulls,” said UALR ceramics instructor Steve Driver.

Phillips, who received a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Florida, taught art for 25 years. She has exhibited her work at Artspace in Little Rock and at L. Ross Gallery in Memphis.
