Concerts, cooking, soccer, and more will mark “Do Deutsch Week” Oct. 10-15, a celebration of German culture sponsored by UALR’s German Studies Program and members of the German Club.

Performance artist Bridge Markland will present her production, “Faust in the Box,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.

Other events include a theatrical performance, films, a scavenger hunt, and an awards gala.

UALR is one of 44 campuses nationwide and the only university in Arkansas participating in this project. The German Embassy in Washington, D.C. is sponsoring these events.

Included in the activities is a creative competition, the German Cultural Olympics, for high school and college students. UALR is accepting essays, speeches, works of visual art, original songs and poetry, and videos inspired by Germany, its language, and its culture. Local winners of the competition will go on to compete in the national competition for prizes, such as a trip to Germany.
