Anthony Recognized for Dedication to Student Success

The College Board is recognizing UALR instructor Tommie Sue Anthony of the Center for Gifted Education this week for her contributions to student success at the organization’s Southwestern Regional Forum being held in Albuquerque on Thursday.

Anthony received the 2007 Martha Salmon Leadership Award during the College Board’s Southwestern Regional Forum being held Feb. 1 in Albuquerque.

“Tommie is well known in the region and throughout the College Board organization as someone who is truly a visionary focused on student achievement,” said Cindy Ashby of the College Board. “This is an incredibly prestigious award – a testament to Tommie’s dedication to the Advanced Placement (AP) program.”

Anthony began her teaching career in 1963 and has been affiliated with the AP program since 1980 as both a teacher and administrator. She is the author of the College Board workshop Pre-AP: Instructional Leadership Using AP Vertical Teams. She currently coordinates the AP Summer Institute and also serves as a national consultant and professional development leader and trainer for Pre-AP and AP teachers throughout the nation.

The UALR Advanced Placement Institutes were the first in the state of Arkansas and still are the largest provider of professional development for Pre-AP and AP teachers. Each summer approximately 800 AP and Pre-AP teachers attend UALR’s AP Summer Institutes.

“It’s gratifying to be recognized for your efforts by your peers,” Anthony said. “The award brings recognition and honor to UALR’s Arkansas AP Professional Development Center and emphasizes our continued assistance to Arkansas school districts and teachers.”
