Homecoming Queen Aqa-uia “Quay” Allen-Smith was all smiles after being crowned during halftime of the Trojan men’s basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 26.
Allen-Smith, a business marketing major and a graduate of Conway High School, waved to the crowd who had packed into Jack Stephens Center for the last home basketball game of the season for the Trojans.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta and has served for the last two years as a resident assistant in West Hall.
The 2015 UALR Homecoming Court consists of Queen Allen-Smith, Lauren McNeaill, Maija Jones, Nora Bouzihay, and Shante Ford.
Homecoming included a great show by the UALR Trojan men’s basketball team, which upset Georgia State in a 92-83 victory on Senior Night and saw UALR seniors Ben Dillard and Gus Leeper honored in a pre-game ceremony.
The game was Dillard’s 120th, matching him with only two others for first place on the Trojans’ career games played list. Leeper is the last remaining member from UALR’s 2011 Sun Belt Tournament title and NCAA Tournament bid.
The women’s team also picked up a win against George State and finished home conference play undefeated for the second year in a row. The senior women’s players were recognized and include Ka’Neisheia Collins, Taylor Gault, and Kierra Clark.
The women followed that upset by defeating the University of Texas-Arlington on Feb. 28, earning the Sun Belt regular-season championship outright for the first time in school history and securing the conference tournament’s top seed.
