Mia Phillips is the director of the Multicultural Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her experience navigating large projects that fuse multiple stakeholders, while simultaneously advocating for underrepresented populations, has provided a refined lens that effectively identifies gaps between traditional higher educational approaches and the needs of today’s student. She believes that in order to properly effectuate change for any population, one must stay connected to that population.
She has received high accolades from students for her creative approach to Composition curricula wherein she fused social media and music. She also serves as a mentor for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund as well as an advisor for the University’s Gospel Choir. A native of El Dorado, Arkansas, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas, and master’s and doctoral degrees from UA Little Rock. She and her husband Jonathan have two children.
