Course Overview

Prerequisites: admission to program and ELEM 2303 Emergent Literacy. This course focuses on the foundations of early and fluent stages of literacy in a natural learning environment for second grade through third grade children. Emphasis will be given to learning to teach through the components of a comprehensive literacy program with special attention placed on designing and managing literate environments, appropriate book selection, word building activities to promote visual processing strategies, comprehension development, and using observational assessment strategies to guide instruction.
