This course presents the history, philosophy, and major concepts of middle level education. Topics emphasized are the organizational components of middle level schools; current research in reflective practice; practical problem solving and development of a professional; and a reflective approach to teaching. Candidates will learn to use tools of reflective teaching to assess their own level of competence and to design learning experiences to improve their own classroom teaching. Relationships between schools and community organizations, between schools and families, and between schools and a diverse society are discussed. 3 credit hours.
