Smaranda Aldea

Dr. Aldea received a PhD in Philosophy from Emory University and is now Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Kent State University. Read about her research and teaching interests here.

Vince Shemwell

Vince Shemwell completed a 2011 Summer Fellowship to participate in the Young Scholars Program at the Howard and Edna Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN). The award included a 2-month residency, during which Vince conducted research and met regularly with Kierkegaard scholar Dr. Gordon Marino. For more details see the Young Scholars Program’s website.

Brandon Hamilton

Brandon Hamilton graduated with a BA in Philosophy in 2008 and spent 2009-2010 in Kolkata, India, as a Fulbright Scholar studying the problem of consciousness and its resolution in Advaita Vedanta, which is an issue he first encountered in Dr. Andrew Eshleman’s Eastern Thought class. In addition to philosophy, Brandon spent much of his time studying the tabla, an Indian percussion instrument.

Stephanie Hinojosa

Stephanie graduated in 2009 and received a Future Visions Global Grant sponsored by Rotary International. This $30,000 award enabled Stephanie to pursue an MA in Applied Ethics at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Amy Brawner-Bishop

Amy teaches mathematics to girls in the United Arab Emirates. When not working on her pedagogy or practicing her Arabic, she is traveling the globe. Amy graduated in 2008 with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Religious Studies.

Clint Lancaster

Clint Lancaster graduated in 2008 with a degree in Philosophy. After UALR, he matriculated to the Bowen School of Law where he quickly rose to the top of his class. In addition to apprenticing for the Bowen Law Review (a student-edited law journal), Clint interned at Wright, Lindsey, & Jennings L.L.P. and Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates, & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. He currently works at his own thriving law firm, The Lancaster Law Firm.

George Andrews – earned an MA in Philosophy from the University of Memphis, and is pursuing a PhD in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University.

Michael Wyatt – pursuing a Master of Information Systems degree at UA Fayetteville.


Kassandra Barker – Direct Support Professional, First Step, Inc. (Hot Springs)
DSPs assist persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to integrate into the community and lead self-directed lives. Kassandra is also a volunteer intake counselor at Change Point Pregnancy Care and Parental Resource Center.

Dylan Jacobs – earned hsi JD at the Vanderbilt School of Law, and as of Fall 2018 is serving as Assistant Solicitor General in the Arkansas Attorney General’s office.


Amy Brawner – taught at LISA Academy and now teaches Mathematics in the United Arab Emirates

Nathan Garcia – received a JD from Temple University and works in the legal profession in Philadelphia

Brandon Hamilton – studied as a Fulbright scholar in India; currently works as Director of Data Management at Community Healthcare Network and Database Administrator at Legal Action Center in Brooklyn, NY.


Richard Chandler – received a JD from University of Colorado School of Law, then served as a law clerk for the Honorable Dennis J. Hall, Division 5, in Golden, CO.

Smaranda Aldea – received a PhD in Philosophy from Emory University; currently a Lecturer at Dartmouth University

Ralph Nash – completed Masters in Social Work; now working as a Clinical Therapist

Shane Madison – Police Officer, North Little Rock PD

Chellie (Michelle) Fowler – pursuing a PhD in neuropsychology/neuroscience at Queens College, NY. Her current research uses selective adaptation techniques to investigate perception as the integration of sensory information into the visual cortex.

Jessica Kokinos – awarded a $10,000 scholarship to go to culinary school in NYC and an externship at the Food Network

Craig Jones – received MSW in Clinical Social Work from UALR; currently works in private practice in Little Rock. Craig also teaches courses in Philosophy at UALR.

Tony Ezzi – received an MBA and now works in Little Rock as an insurance claims adjustor

Gary Lee Parrish – Axciom; UALR Executive MBA; Chief Information Security Officer, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (Dallas, TX); now pursuing an MA in Information Sciences

Steve Jauss – MALS at UALR; teaches Philosophy courses at UALR

Suzanne Antley – PhD in philosophy from University of Memphis; currently works at the Deputy Attorney General’s Office in Los Angeles, CA
