Game Change: Harry Reid’s Comments

In their book Game Change Mark Halperin and John Hellemann reported that Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said in a private conversation in 2008 that Barrack Obama could succeed as a black candidate partly because of his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one.” Do you find Reid’s comments offensive? Why or why not?
