Campus to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage May 2

Asian Pacific American Month globeThe UALR Office of Campus Life will host an observance of Asian Pacific American Month at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, in rooms A, B, and C of the Donaghey Student Center.

The observance is a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Historically, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month was established to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843.

It also marks the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
