U.S. Supreme Court strikes down part of the Voting Rights Act

March on WashingtonThe U.S. Supreme Court announced Tuesday that Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act has been stricken from the historic act.

According to the Associated Press, this ruling means Section 5 of the act “cannot be enforced unless Congress comes up with an up-to-date formula for deciding which states and localities still need federal monitoring.”
