In 1957 nine black students enrolled at the all-white
Little Rock Central High School.
There were riots and threats against the black students. Governor Faubus called the Arkansas
National Guard to block the black students from entering the school. President Eisenhower sent federal troops
to Little Rock to ensure the rights of the black students.
