Welcome to the UALR Discussion Board on Race and Ethnicity. This forum has been established to facilitate thoughtful and constructive dialogue on issues of race and ethnicity.
Race has been a major issue–arguably the major issue–in America from the start. In our strategic plan, the University pledged to external stakeholders that UALR would “be a keeper of the flame on the subject of race.” To that end the UALR Institute of Government has conducted five annual surveys of attitudes and perceptions related to race in Pulaski County as well as an on-campus survey of student attitudes.
This discussion board for UALR students, faculty, and staff is another step by the University to focus attention and stimulate thoughtful discussion of what is admittedly a sensitive subject that many of us would prefer to ignore.
This forum is a project of the Chancellor’s Committee on Race, and in the next few months the committee will evaluate its usefulness. I encourage you to be an active participant.
