Editing Concentration (MA)

The editing and publishing concentration in UA Little Rock’s MA program focuses on preparing students to become professional editors in workplaces and the publishing industry.  Students must take four specific editing courses to satisfy their concentration requirements, plus six hours of hands-on editing internship coursework to satisfy their cognate requirement. Editing concentration students who choose the thesis option for the degree may choose one elective course as part of their program, while editing concentration students who choose the portfolio option have five electives.

Note: The editing concentration is not currently available for students who are completing their entire degree online.

Courses that are required for the editing concentration include

  • RHET 5304 Technical Style and Editing
  • RHET 5321 Editing for Publication
  • RHET 5322 Advanced Editing
  • RHET 5323 Production for Editors

In addition, students must take 6 hours of editing internship (RHET 7161, 7261, and/or 7361)

  • RHET 5305 Document Design
  • RHET 5346 Topics in Technical Communication (Indexing)
  • RHET 5324 Publishing Inside/Out
  • RHET 5326 Technology of the Book
  • RHET 7312 Language Theory
  • RHET 7333 Topics in Editing and Publishing
  • RHET 7150, 7250, 7350 Independent Study
  • plus other courses as approved by the editing concentration coordinator
