Four members of the Staff Senate participated in Suicide Prevention Week activities held in September, helping spread the word about the services provided at UALR to help students through challenging times.
Counselor Aresh Assadi organized several of the events, which included a Gallery of Hope art exhibit, a memorial walk, and an artistic expression contest.
Rikki Turner, assistant director of housing, and Arrayon Farlough from Testing Services were part of a video project coordinated by Jennifer Godwin from digital strategy.
The primary goal of the week, which coincided with National Suicide Prevention Week, was to honor survivors and loved ones affected by suicide, according to the UALR Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Additionally, the foundation wanted to help students and employees overcome barriers to talking about mental health and suicide, as well as raise awareness of the services and support provided at the UALR campus.
The video, directed by student Trevor Collins, was shown before the memorial walk.
