Senator Sit-down: Shanna Morris

Name: Shanna Morris

Department: Facilities Management

Years at UALR: Almost 10

Years on Staff Senate: I’m in my sixth year.

Role in Staff Senate: President

Best part of your job: Each day is different for me, and I enjoy having variety. I also enjoy the things Facilities Management does for its employees such as an annual holiday dinner and a fish fry in addition to providing scholarships to pay for the cost of tuition and fees that the UALR tuition discount doesn’t deduct.

Staff Senate is special to me because: Staff Senate strives to assist the staff and community in so many ways that it’s too long to list, and we aim to acknowledge the hard work our staff provides to UALR on a daily basis with our Staff Awards Ceremony. All of this is accomplished on behalf of staff members who volunteer their time because they think it’s a worthy cause.

I couldn’t live without: My immediate family and my three dogs.

Last thing I read: Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner

Favorite meal: I don’t have an overall favorite, but right now I would really like some mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Oh, and some of that cinnamon crumb coffee cake that Panera Bread makes. Yes, I would like that.

Best vacation I ever took was: The first thing that comes to mind is the UALR exchange program with Graz, Austria, I got to participate in during 2005.

Fun fact people might not know about me: I almost flipped over a large-cab tractor while driving it, and I drove my dad’s pull truck in competitions…and actually got trophies for it.

One word that sums me up: Inquisitive
