Mission
The mission of UA Little Rock Health Services (HS) is to improve the health and wellness of the university community by providing inclusive, evidence-based, quality health care and wellness promotion.
Summary Narrative
1) Enhance recruitment and retention efforts to increase enrollment
- Continued at the forefront in providing health services and information during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
- Partnered with the Department of Nursing to provide many opportunities for student nurses to enhance clinical skills through the provision of vaccinations and sentinel testing.
- Facilitated contact tracing for the UA Little Rock community.
- Participated in orientation events.
- Provided TB skin test for Department of Nursing students.
- Provided medical clearance for enrolled International students.
2) Strengthen student-friendly operations and customer service
- Co-hosted MythBusters: Sex Edition to educate on pregnancy prevention and sexual health.
- Hosted local pharmacies on campus to provide COVID vaccinations and booster shots.
- Provided rapid PCR COVID testing for the UA Little Rock community.
- Opened a lactation room in Health Services.
- Provided sentinel COVID testing in August 2021.
3) Improve diversity and inclusion efforts to provide a safe and inclusive environment for students
- Safe Zone training completed by all full-time staff.
- Partnered with Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) on 11/10/21, provided health screening to 56 participants. (largest group AMHC ever screened)
- Provided health-related information and guidance during study abroad orientations.
- Colorfully decorated HS waiting room for Pride Month.
- Continued provision of specific services addressing women’s health issues and birth control.
4) Align financial and human resources to operate more effectively and efficiently
- Medicat electronic medical record system provided for CS and CareTeam counselors from HS budget.
- Psychiatric APRN housed in CS with 20 hours per week salary paid from HS budget. An additional 10 hours per week salary was paid from HEERF funds.
- Payments via Insurance & billing continued as means to recoup HS expenses.
5) Promote student development, engagement, and leadership
- Facilitated Save AR Students campaigns on and off campus in fall 2021 and spring 2022. This campaign provides education regarding alcohol and substance misuse.

Patients in Health Services during March 2022 were surveyed in April 2022
Results
Of the 74 responses received, only 22 responded (29.7%) to the particular assessment item. Of those 22, 5 (23%) responded NA. The other responses generally indicated patients were provided info on how to improve their health.
Responses example:
- I needed a vaccination and she [Chanell Smith, ARRN] answered all my questions.
- My blood glucose was what I was concerned with and they reassured me that everything was good.
- I learned about the types of blood work I could have done.
Continuous improvement process
Plans are to increase the number of times each semester the survey is sent out to better assess patients’ experience with HS.
