Dr. Radu Babiceanu Receives the 2012 EIT College Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching

Dr. Radu Babiceanu, Assistant Professor, Systems Engineering Department, received the 2012 EIT College Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching. The goals of Dr. Babiceanu’s class instructions are synergistic with the educational and research goals of Systems Engineering Department and EIT College in the area of Systems Engineering. During the last five and a half years of class instruction, Dr. Babiceanu has been highly praised by our students and alumni and this award comes as a richly deserved recognition of his outstanding teaching. Dr. Babiceanu has also been successful in mentoring undergraduate students to apply for and secure research awards in state competitions.

Dr. Babiceanu teaches several undergraduate and graduate systems engineering core courses such as: Introduction to Systems Engineering, Discrete-Event Systems Modeling and Simulation, Systems Architecture and Design, and Systems Management and Evaluation. He also teaches advanced graduate systems engineering courses, such as: Complex Engineered Systems and Advanced Systems Simulation.

An important aspect of Dr. Babiceanu’s teaching philosophy is the continuous improvement process, which is included in the overall program assessment methodology that he implemented in his courses. Dr. Babiceanu has coauthored with his colleagues several papers on assessment processes pursued, which were disseminated through presentations and publications in symposiums organized by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
