Existing compounds such as phytohormones are not always effective in the&nbsp;industrial scale. More effective methods or compounds are needed to stimulate plant tissue&nbsp;growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SOLUTION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By using nanomaterials such as multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), researchers at UA Little Rock&nbsp;have found a new effective way to increase the yield of plant cell biomass. Researchers have&nbsp;observed that by adding low doses of carbon nanotubes to standard growth media, it&nbsp;affects the expression of a number of genes that are essential for cellular functions resulting&nbsp;in significantly higher yield of plant cell tissue growth when compared to existing growth&nbsp;regulators or activated carbon. extremely difficult and costly environmental problem.&nbsp;Phosphorus run offs can lead to \u201cdead zones\u201d due to eutrophication and hypoxia leading to the&nbsp;death of aquatic life. Currently there is no commercial product for P removal in an economical&nbsp;way from large water sources to meet recent, stringent EPA requirements (costs are estimated&nbsp;to be $44.5 billion using conventional methods). Furthermore, Phosphorus (a key component&nbsp;for fertilizers) is a finite resource. About 65 percent of US production comes from pit mines&nbsp;near Tampa, Fla and are estimated to deplete in a few decades. Hence, the removal and reuse&nbsp;of phosphorus from point and non-point sources is needed to alleviate this growing problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-solution\">SOLUTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers at UA Little Rock have developed high surface area magnetite particles embedded in&nbsp;wood as well as in carbon that are highly efficient in reducing Phosphorus to ultra low levels (as&nbsp;low as 0.01 mg\/L). The Phosphorus can be recovered from the media and potentially recycled&nbsp;as fertilizers in the form of solids, calcium phosphate and struvite (MgNH4PO4) or as liquid&nbsp;fertilizer solutions of potassium or ammonium phosphate. The media can be regenerated at&nbsp;least 10 times for successive removal. transfer offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-disclosing-your-invention\">Disclosing your invention:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You and your co-inventors (if applicable) need to fill out the <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.wellspringsoftware.net\/kms\/auth\/login\/?r=1&amp;from=%2F\">UA Little Rock Invention Disclosure Form <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ualr.edu\/techlaunch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2014\/07\/UALR-Invention-disclosure-form-Paper-Form-7-30-14.docx\">(Or The Paper Form)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/em>to the best of your abilities. The more complete this form is, the faster will the processing time be.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring or email a signed copy of the disclosure to UA Little Rock Tech Launch (ETAS 105) or innovation@ualr.edu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UA Little Rock Tech Launch Staff will confirm receipt of your disclosure and conduct an analysis report. This report will be conducted by one of our GAs and\u00a0will include a report on the technical, patentability, and marketability of your invention. Again, the more complete your initial disclosure is, the faster it will take to complete such report.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UA Little Rock Tech Launch staff will reach a decision:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the decision is to <em><strong>pursue patent protection<\/strong>,\u00a0 <\/em>UA Little Rock Tech Launch staff will proceed with filing with the patent on the same or next day after the decision is made<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the decision is that <strong><em>further research\/development is needed,\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>UA Little Rock Tech Launch will work with the inventor to identify steps that strengthens the patentability\/marketability of the invention<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the decision is that <strong><em>UA Little Rock\u00a0 cannot\u00a0commit\u00a0to the prosecution of the invention, <\/em><\/strong>steps will be taken to return the rights of the invention to the inventor(s). Bone mineralization is a complex process involving several different cell types, including osteoblasts, and results in the hardening of bones by incorporation of minerals such as calcium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studies of this method used various nanomaterials to stimulate mineralization in an invitro osteoblast cell line model derived from mice. It is a means for the body to stop certain types of cells from growing at specific stages of development and to provide for cellular renewal as appropriate for specific cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, it has become clear that defective apoptosis (programmed cell death) represents a major causative factor in the development and progression of cancer. The ability of tumor cells to evade engagement of apoptosis can play a significant role in their resistance to conventional therapeutic regimens. Many drugs in use today indirectly influence apoptosis and many other drugs are being developed that specifically target apoptotic mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This technology uses nanoparticles of various types to enhance cell killing by the apoptotic agent etoposide. Epotoside is known to cause breaks in cellular DNA and is used with other agents in chemotherapy for various cancers including Ewing\u2019s sarcoma, lung cancer, testicular cancer and other types.
