12 directors, 7 playwrights, 4 dancers, and 2 solo artists will present original work that can be viewed on the Theatre Arts and Dance YouTube channel beginning on May 10th. Our innovative approach to producing in the age of Covid began with the Fall 2020 Page-to-Stage course. Writers were asked to submit original work following parameters of no more than 3 – 5 performers who could not touch and who had to remain socially distanced. 1st Year Experience students created solo works from quarantine. Senior BFA dance students created capstone projects for the film.

This spring, the directing class envisioned 6 works selected from Page-to-Stage submissions and brought them to life both as live theatre as well as the adapted film works. Film-focused directors shot on location with an assigned cinematographer and film crew. At the same time, theatre-focused directors produced the same work for live theatre. The company of artists collaborating to bring this year’s Fringe to life includes UA Little Rock theatre/dance, English and Mass Communications students and alumni, area actors, and professional artists from the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and Hendrix College. Original work, two ways, an incomparable experience.
