The Financial Wellness Fair is a free event open to all UA Little Rock students and is being held to educate students on the importance of establishing financial goals and to teach them how to make smart choices to reach those goals. The event will provide students with the tools necessary to make sound financial decisions and to maximize income.
The overall goals of the event are to: 1)Educate students about the appropriate and effective ways to manage money; 2) Provide effective strategies or do’s and don’ts to help students navigate difficult financial decisions; 3) Uncover potential threats to the financial health of students; and 4) Inspire students to develop a long-term financial plan by drawing connections between decisions made today and how those decisions affect tomorrow.
The FWF is organized with the intent to provide an ongoing financial literacy curriculum. It will maintain a focus on improving student financial literacy but grow to also include information that may be applicable and appropriate for faculty/staff and/or the community at large. The event will begin with the core competencies of money matters for students, including financial aid, basic banking services, saving, student loan debt, and budgeting. As the event grows, more advanced topics will be addressed. These topics include consumer credit, debt reduction, investing, home-buying, estate-planning, tax planning, insurance needs, unemployment and retirement/social security. Attention will also be given to identity theft and keeping financial information safe in this millennial generation.
