Our guests this week are Dr. Michael Bauer and Dr. Lanita S. White
Dr. Michael Bauer is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at UAMS. He obtained dual bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Biology at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. He later came to UA Little Rock for his Masters and PhD in Bioinformatics. He uses “big data” to understand cancer biology by looking at multiple types of molecular data. Recent work includes investigating the alternative splicing of mRNA and its role in Multiple Myeloma, environmental heavy metal exposure, and breast cancer risk in under-served rural populations.
Dr. Lanita S. White is an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Assistant Professor in the UAMS College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice. She graduated with her Pharm.D. from Xavier University of Louisiana. After graduation, Dr. White has had several roles including Clinical Pharmacist in Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Residency Program Director for the VA PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency.
Dr. White is also a member of many professional pharmaceutical societies, a current board member of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association, a founding member of the Arkansas College of Clinical Pharmacy, and a Past President of the Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists.
Dr. White has received many prestigious awards. Most recently, she received the 2017 – 2018 UAMS Chancellor’s Award for Society and Health Education Excellence, which is the highest award given at the university.
