Departmental Examination Program (DEP)
DEP exams are usually constructed and graded on campus. Most tests vary from 30 minutes to 3 hours in length, and may include objective questions, essay questions, and/or skills tests.
Some DEP tests may be taken only once. Some may be re-taken after a specified time period. Check with Testing Services for details.

DEP Scoring Information
Departmental exams vary according to the subject. Some of the passing scores are percentage scores; others are percentile scores. Others are point scores, and a few are simply pass or fail. Complete information is available from the Office of Testing Services.
Score processing time varies, but most score reports are processed within six weeks of the test date.
DEP Test Schedule and Registration
Schedule varies by test. Check the DEP Calendar below.
- To register:
- Come to Testing Services (Ross Hall 409) at least one week prior to the test date.
- Fill out a DEP registration form.
- For all DEPs except math and composition, take the registration form to the appropriate department for approval. (For example, if you want to take a Chemistry DEP, you must take the registration form to the Chemistry Department.) The department chairperson or a designee will sign the form. (This step is not necessary for the math and composition DEPs.)
- If you have questions on how to prepare, ask in the department. (In Testing Services, we have handouts for the Composition II
and Speech DEPs only.) - Submit your completed DEP registration form with a check, money order (payable to UALR), credit card, or exact cash for $35. The deadline to submit your form and fee is at least one week in advance of the test date.
- Receive an Admission Ticket with test day information.
