CAHC holds over 70,000 images, including over 2,200 postcards. View digitized photographs and photograph collection finding aids in the online catalog or in the Research Room at the CALS Roberts Library. CAHC’s photograph collections consist of strictly photographic materials from the personal papers, organizational records, and collections of our many unique donors.

Arkansas Elected Officials photograph collection, circa 1861-1867
This collection contains photographic prints and reproductions of portraits of members who served in Arkansas’s 16th General Assembly (held November 5, 1866 to March 23, 1867 in Little Rock) and the Confederate General Assembly (held September 2 to October 2, 1864 in Washington, Arkansas), in addition to other elected officials in Arkansas during the 19th century.
Arkansas Engravings photograph collection, 1855-1900
This collection contains engravings of places, events, things and persons in Arkansas from various publications of the nineteenth century, including Harper’s Weekly and Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. Most of the titles of the engravings are taken directly from their source.
Arkansas German families photograph collection, circa 1900-1944
This collection contains photographic prints and postcards of families with Germanic origins who settled in Arkansas during the early 20th century, including portraits, social gatherings, and businesses.
Arkansas Individuals photograph collection, 1863-1969
This collection contains cartes de visite, photographic prints, and studio portraits of Arkansas individuals, families, groups, and informal gatherings. Information listed in the finding aid may include the photographed individual’s names, birth and death dates, place of residence, date of image, kinship, marriages, and other information taken from the front and back of the image.
Arkansas Labor Archives Project photograph collection, 1890-1986
The collection contains photographic print reproductions of labor in Arkansas, including factories, workers, unions, Painters Local 424, and strikes. This collection was created for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO) display during the June 1985 convention in Hot Springs.
Art Work of Scenes in Arkansas photograph collection, 1895
This collection contains photographic prints from the twelve-part series Art Work of Scenes in Arkansas (1895). Ashley County Scenes photograph collection, circa 1900-1979

J. H. Atkinson photograph collection, circa 1890-1963
This collection contains photographic prints and postcards from J. H. Atkinson, past president of Little Rock Junior College, representing his personal and professional life, including his time as a student at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (1909-1912), principal at Nashville High School in Tennessee, his honeymoon in Colorado (1920), and family portraits.

This collection contains photographic prints, postcards, and illustrations documenting Bernie Babcock’s personal life and career, including her years of work at the Museum of Natural History and Antiquities (now the Museum of Discovery), her work with the Federal Writer’s Program, her research on Abraham Lincoln, and her family and social life.
Bailey Family photograph collection, circa 1895-1964
This collection contains photographic prints of the Bailey Family Archives, including political and personal family photos of Carl Edward Bailey (1894-1948), who served as governor of Arkansas from 1937-1941; aerial views of state institutions, such as hospitals, colleges, and prisons; and publicity shots of Aimee Semple McPherson.

Howard during his travels by wagon through Lonoke, Faulkner, and Pulaski counties, Arkansas, circa 1900. Many of the backdrops used for portraits were designed by Howard.
Huddleston Steamboat photograph collection, circa 1827-1976
This collection contains photographic print reproductions, notes, advertisements, and bills of lading concerning steamboats, snag boats, and gun boats and their travels on the White River, Black River, and Arkansas River, collected by Harold Duane Huddleston, and were displayed together at the Arkansas Territorial Restoration (now named Historic Arkansas Museum) in 1975 July. Included with the photographs are Huddleston’s annotations about the ships and their captains.

Andrew Kilgore photograph collection, circa 1986-1988
This collection includes the work of Andrew Kilgore, a photographer who is best known for his black and white portraits. It consists of photographs from a photographic essay project about the Arkansas Sesquicentennial celebration, release forms with biographical information, photograph contact sheets, and working prints for publication, and Outreach Through Art publications, which was a project that Kilgore created to highlight Little Rock businesses and organizations.

This collection contains photographs from around the Mount Ida area including: the Southfork of the Ouachita River (including bridges), the Burkhart Homestead, Bertha Burkhart, the Whittington family, and the sawmill north of town. Also included in this collection are other examples of Mount Ida commerce.

Also included are cities, such as Bentonville, Eureka Springs, Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Little Rock, Mena, Pine Bluff, and Springdale. The bulk of the postcards are undated unless otherwise noted.
Raymond Preddy photographs on the Little Rock Central High School Crisis, 1957
This collection contains 63 photographic negatives and one photographic print documenting Central High School during the desegregation crisis of 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The images were taken by Raymond Preddy, who was a graduate of Central High School in 1957 and worked as a cub reporter for the Arkansas Gazette.

F. P. Rose photograph collection, 1820-1961
This collection contains photographic prints and reproductions, facsimiles, and photostats collected by F. P. Rose, concerning the Civil War; his family and social life (1955-1958); and late 19th and early 20th century scenes and historical markers of various states, including Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Most predominant are photographic print reproductions of historical figures, buildings, and businesses in Arkansas.

This collection contains the photographic prints of Uriah M. and Margaret Rose and their home.

Earl Saunders, Jr., photographs, 1870-1977
This collection contains negatives, photographic prints, glass negatives, slides, ledgers, and index cards created and collected by Earl Saunders, Jr., who operated the commercial photography studio, Earl Saunders, Photographer, in Little Rock from 1947 to 1977. Saunders specialized in architectural photography, and his clients were predominantly architectural firms in central Arkansas. Other clients included businesses, charities, families, and churches. The collection also includes business records from his studio, documenting his clients and jobs. Also included are negatives and photographs he took as part of his training to be a photographer at the School of Modern Photography in New York City.
Saunders also collected photographs taken by others. As a member of the Arkansas Valley Model Railroad Club, he photographed historic images relating to railroads from unidentified sources. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he traveled to take photographs of the declining railroad industry in Arkansas. He also collected historic photographs of Little Rock in the late 19th and early 20th century. Subjects included in the collection are the built environment, mid-20th century architecture, commerce, advertising, urban renewal, recreation, transportation, and community life.

This collection contains photographic and illustrated postcards and photographic prints of parks, woods, lakes, rivers, and mountains in Arkansas, including Fort Smith (circa 1905-1930s), Mena (1900, circa 1930), Russellville (circa 1900), Winslow (circa 1933), and the Ozarks.
Sports photograph collection, circa 1890s-1938
This collection contains postcards and photographic prints of sports in Arkansas, including hunting, fishing, baseball, basketball, pool, horse racing, and golf in cities such as Arkansas City, Fort Smith, Huntington, Mena, Russellville, Van Buren, and Woodrow. Most predominant in the collection are photographic reproductions of hunting in Scott County.
St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas photograph collection, 1934-1935
This collection contains photographic prints mounted on album pages of selected property sites located in the St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas in 1934-1935 and were taken by the Levee District Board of Directors to collaborate property re-evaluations for taxing purposes, including the counties of Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett and St. Francis.

Ralph A. Sturgeon photograph collection, circa 1927-1930s
This collection contains photographic prints that were collected by Ralph A. Sturgeon of various highways in northwestern Arkansas in the late 1920s and early 1930s, including construction activities such as building bridges, upgrading highways, and documenting flood damage to roads and bridges.
