Campus Living and Campus Dining Credit and Refund for Spring 2020 Residents

This document is intended to summarize housing and meal plan credit and refund options for spring 2020 residents who checked-out of their residences during the spring 2020 term due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Questions not addressed by this document may be addressed to the Office of Campus Living (campusliving@ualr.edu), Financial Aid & Scholarships (financialaid@ualr.edu), Student Accounts (studentaccounts@ualr.edu), or the Dean of Students (deanofstudents@ualr.edu). 

Option 1: Students Not Graduating by August 31, 2020 who did not terminate the Lease Agreements before March 31, 2020.

Spring 2020 residents who are not graduating by August 31, 2020, may receive a 100% prorated credit for housing and meal plan costs lost after April 6, the deadline for vacating the campus residences. The amount of the credit is calculated by multiplying the daily rate for the housing and meal plan costs by the number of days remaining in the spring semester, beginning on April 6, 2020. This amount may vary based on the housing and meal plan options initially selected by the student at the beginning of the lease agreement. 

Option 2: Students Graduating (Completing Course Requirements) by August 31, 2020 who did not terminate the Lease Agreements before March 31, 2020.

Spring 2020 residents who complete all coursework required for graduation by August 31, 2020, may receive a prorated 100% refund for housing and meal plan costs lost after April 6, the deadline for vacating the campus residences. The amount of the refund is calculated by multiplying the daily rate for the housing and meal plan costs by the number of days remaining in the spring semester, beginning on April 6, 2020. This amount may vary based on the housing and meal plan options initially selected by the student at the beginning of the lease agreement. 

Option 3: Students who Terminated Lease Agreements before March 31, 2020.

For spring 2020 residents who elected to terminate their lease agreements before the university’s announcement on March 31, 2020 that the UA Little Rock residences were closing, the following applies.

  • For students not graduating by August 31, 2020:  Students may elect one of the following: (a) receive a 100% prorated credit for housing and meal plan costs lost after April 6, the deadline for vacating the campus residences or (b) a 50% pro-rated housing-only refund per the Housing Lease Termination Clause.  The 50% prorated housing refund is calculated by multiplying one-half of the daily housing rate times the number of days remaining in the term from the date of the terminated lease agreement. Under this option, the meal plan cost is neither refundable nor available as a credit for a future term. 
  • For students graduating (completing course requirements) by August 31, 2020:  Students may receive a prorated 100% refund for housing and meal plan costs lost after April 6, the deadline for vacating the campus residences.

The amounts credited or refunded under each option may vary based on the housing and meal plan options initially selected by the student at the beginning of the lease agreement.

In order to be eligible for a refund or credit, you must complete the Housing and Meal Plans Credit and Refunds Form, which can be found here, and return it to campusliving@ualr.edu. 

Note on Housing Component of Institutional Scholarships.

Some institutional scholarships awarded to students have a housing component. The housing component of institutional scholarships is not refundable. 

Note on Housing and Meal Plan Credits

Housing and meal plan credits may be used the academic year 2020-2021.
