Educator Signing Day at the State Capitol

On Friday, April 15, teacher candidates in the ELEM, MCED, and SPED undergraduate programs rallied at the State Capitol in the historic second floor rotunda to sign proclamations to become teachers.

As the morning progressed teacher candidates were fortunate to meet and speak with Governor Asa Hutchinson about their passion for teaching.

In addition, Johnny Key, Secretary for the Arkansas Department of Education visited with teacher candidates about their grade level and district preferences.

Also present at the Educator Signing Day was Susanna Post, 2021 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. (Left to right: Bill Kerns, Heather Newsam, Susanna Post, Amanda Sartain, Kent Layton, Leslie Sharp, & Jennifer Hune). The day’s biggest surprise by far was provided by the Travelers Baseball Team. All students and teacher candidates ~ with a signed proclamation ~ were awarded a $100 gift card!
