Black History Month Reading, Featuring Dr. Sybil Hampton

The UA Little Rock community is invited to celebrate Black History Month with a special reading by Dr. Sybil Jordan Hampton on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.

Admission is free for this event. Guests are encouraged to park in Lots 8 and 9.

During this event, Dr. Hampton will read from her forthcoming memoir and share reflections from her remarkable life and career. As the first three-year African-American graduate of Little Rock Central High School in 1962, she is a lifelong educator and social justice advocate. After earning graduate degrees from the University of Chicago and Columbia University, she spent twenty-three years in academic leadership at Iona College, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and Southwestern University, later serving as President of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and Contributions Manager for Education and Culture at the GTE Corporate Foundation. In retirement, she has remained an influential community leader, serving on the boards of numerous organizations, including the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Reynolds Institute on Aging Advisory Board, the Mount Holly Cemetery Board, and as a Life Member of the Girl Scouts of America, the Arkansas Symphony Guild, and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
