Reaching Out to Young People
Dr. Joe Felan, who devotes much of his spare time to educating and mentoring young people, volunteers his time and expertise with Junior Achievement, the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
His service on the Saline County Junior Achievement board over the past four years includes help in raising funds to teach 500 students basic business and economics concepts in 25 classes annually. This year Dr. Felan is chair of the group’s annual luncheon fundraiser.
Dr. Felan serves on the Benton Public School board, helping to guide the district of 4,500 students on seven campuses. His business background has helped the district solve problems, including school bus routing issues, budget development, and curricular decisions.
An associate professor in the Department of Management, Dr. Felan currently serves as interim associate dean of undergraduate studies. He worked with students last year to establish a UA Little Rock chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business organization. He received a Ph.D. with a major in production/ operations management and a minor in operations research from the University of South Carolina and an M.B.A. in management and B.B.A. in marketing and management from Baylor University.
