Voice of Excellence
Dr. Richard I. Zraick, associate professor in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, is well known nationally for his work in voice assessment and treatment of voice disorders. Several years ago, he was asked to lead an effort by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to validate a standardized voice assessment instrument.
This achievement involved another multi-year, multi-location study that has resulted in a publication that will have a large national impact on how voice professionals conduct perceptual evaluation of voice disorders.
Dr. Zraick has achieved excellence in research as evidenced by his publications, presentations, and grant-related activity. He currently has 40 publications, 26-peer-reviewed articles in prestigious scientific journals, including Laryngoscope, Journal of Voice, and Journal of Medical Speech-Language Pathology. He is also co-author of “The Voice and Voice Therapy,” the leading textbook in the area of voice disorders since 1971. This book is used at both the undergraduate and graduates levels and by professional voice clinicians. Dr. Zraick has made nearly 50 presentations across the country and has been awarded nine grants.
His professional memberships include ASHA, the Academy of Neurological Communication Disorders and Sciences, and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
He received a Ph.D. from Arizona State University and M.S. and B.A. degrees from the University of Arizona.
