Improving Law and Community
Ken Gould is described as a champion of public service, whether related or unrelated to his legal expertise, and has a long history of willingness to serve his community.
He has worked to make Little Rock bicycle friendly, chairing the mayor’s Bicycle Friendly Community Committee and helping with the Big Dam Bridge, the longest bicycle-pedestrian bridge in the world, and the Two Rivers Bridge.
“I have known Ken Gould since I was a student of law nearly 40 years ago. Over the past two decades, I have worked with him to build a healthier and more sustainable community in Little Rock and Pulaski County,” said County Judge Buddy Villines.
Gould’s actions have improved the educational system, brought awareness to laws impacting public areas of concern, and have encouraged methods through which community members can improve or maintain physical health.
“Professor Gould is a public service treasure in both the legal community and the community at large,” said Jennifer Liwo, a 2011 Bowen School of Law graduate. “He is a man committed to helping institutions and individuals achieve excellence in every aspect.”
Gould has served on the curriculum committee of the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admission to the Bar, coordinating, monitoring, and encouraging curricular reform and development at its 190 law schools.
He was the originator of an Arkansas Water Law and Policy Symposium in 2002 that now has developed into the biennial Arkansas Water Law and Policy Conference.
Gould started teaching at UA Little Rock 37 years ago. He earned a B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska in 1966 and a juris doctor from Creighton University School of Law in 1970.
