Dr. Heidi Skurat Harris is an associate professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing known for her exemplary support for students and her work in online writing instruction.
Skurat Harris challenges students and provides proper support to keep students interested in their own learning. She helps students outside of the classroom with other creative endeavors like aiding in the revision and editing of their scholarly article submissions.
Skurat Harris’ primary focus has been her work in online writing instruction. From 2013 to 2016, she served on the Committee for Effective Practices in Online Writing Instruction of the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the national organization on college composition. On this committee, she co-authored the organization’s position statement on effective practices for instruction in online writing courses.
She has also edited and/or co-authored seven different publications on online writing instruction. Skurat Harris brought her expertise in online writing instruction to UA Little Rock and developed its first Graduate Certificate in Online Writing Instruction. This graduate certificate prepares instructors for teaching composition in an online environment, which is important as institutions across the nation begin to offer more classes in an online format.
Skurat Harris received her Ph.D. in English and an M.A. in English from Ball State University, an M.A. in Writing from Missouri State University, and a B.A. in English from the College of the Ozarks.
